There are a variety of weighted blankets, and depending on the design and how it is constructed by the maker or manufacturer, weighted blankets can be filled with:

  • Micro-glass Beads
  • Sand
  • Plastic Poly Pellets  (*Note- make sure it is made from 100% polypropylene before you purchase it)
  • steel Beads
  • Small Aquarium Stone
  • even bamboo

Now regarding Bamboo filled weighted blankets, they are known to be ideal (or people who experience night sweats or overheat due to menopause, or other medical conditions. But be sure to check with your medical professional first so that you can make a well-educated purchase decision.

FOR WHAT ARE WEIGHTED BLANKETS USED?

Weighted blankets are used for many reasons, and to state the obvious they are used for their warmth, coziness, and comfortability.  But there’s more. There are Weighted Blankets for anxiety, stress, insomnia, etc.  You only need to learn what weight is right for you.

WHY IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT   WEIGHT AND SIZE

Weighted blankets come in various weights and sizes. They can weigh anywhere from 5lbs – 30lbs, and just like most 0ther blankets, they come, Twin, Full, Queen, and King size (measurements may vary depending upon the maker/manufacturer, so you might want to watch for this when making a purchase.

You can also find them in sizes, for a child’s bed. (please note, we do not recommend a weighted blanket for children under 4 years of age).  As a rule of thumb, experts say, a weighted blanket should NOT exceed more than 10 percent of your body weight plus up to 2 pounds.

We strongly discourage the use of a weighted blanket that is heavier than the weight recommended for you.  It could result in an uncomfortable experience that is either too hot or too restrictive robbing you of the quality sleep and deep pressure stimulation the weighted blanket experience was meant to provide.
